MeatPie-Time

10:14 pm

"Seems like Sunday is Meatpie-Time", says Sultan a second prior to taking a huge bite off a fresh-out-of-the-oven-still-hot-meatpie. He's happy and smiles. Ten minutes later he mashed down two large meatpies and declares he needs to take a digestive-nap. I'm thinking:'You did it again, Girl: Knocked him out without physical action.' ;)

I ended up making four trays of rather big meatpies. Unfortunately, I kind of burned the last batch but hey, it happens to the best of us.

What You Will Need to Make Two Trays:

500g Minced Beef Meat
2 small Onions
1kg of Flour
(optional 1 tsp Baking Soda)
500g Baking Margarine
200-250ml of Milk (can be substituted with Water)
2 Eggs
Salt
1 Maggie Cube (Chicken or Beef Seasoning)
Pepper

Let's go:
  1. First you will need to chop your onions into nice little pieces and spice your meat. Once your pan is hot start off with cooking your onions until they are slightly glassy, then add your meat (which you will have spiced before hand). Make sure you fry the meat-onion mice until its very well cooked. Once the meat is done, let it cool off.
  2. As the meat is cooling off, you can get started on preparing the dough. Empty the entire flour bag or at least the 1kg of flour into a large bowl, add the margarine and start mixing the flour with the margarine. It's tough work but it will pay off. Mix until everything's blended and you get a flaky mass. Then you will want to make a little hole in the middle of your mixture and add half of your milk as well as the egg. Keep mixing until the dough becomes less flaky and more consistent, keep adding milk as you go. You can stop when you are able to form a nice round ball without the dough to break.
  3. Now comes the fun part! Roll out you dough on a flat plane ( I love using old wine bottles for that) and start cutting out round forms. In my case is usually use round Tupperware covers but if you do have some actual cutter, make use of it! Meanwhile, heat up your oven to 180C. Fill your cut-shapes with approximately one tbsp of cooled down minced meat, fold over and use a fork to create that famous sealing. Brush the pies of with some egg mixture to get that browned looked on top.
  4. Keep going until you have no dough left (in my case that would be after about filling two baking trays) and place them in the oven ( I usually bake them separately). One tray needs about 20-25min until its done or till the top(where you previously brushed some egg on) is slightly browned.
  5. ENJOY best when still HOT!
For storage, I usually let the pies cool off and store them in the fridge in some Tupperware and heat them up for about 30sec in the microwave.
